First United Methodist Church first began in 1881 meeting in homes, a log schoolhouse, and the courthouse. There were 2 other building locations before the church bought the corner of Tenth and Travis streets.
The current First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls building was constructed between August 1926 and September 1928. The magnificent Gothic Sanctuary seats around 760 people. Since then, a countless number of events have taken place in the church, including concerts from Midwestern State University and the Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra.

First Baptist Church – Downtown

The First Baptist Church dates back to 1883, when Rev. H. M. Burroughs moved from Henrietta and together with eight other people started First Baptist Church.
FBC, W.F. began expanding their Sunday morning worship offerings with the addition of a Contemporary Worship service in August, 2005. Through the years, other programs were added to further reach the community including Upward Sports and a revitalized Youth Ministry.
Under the leadership of the current pastor, Dr. Bob McCartney, two satellite campuses were formed. In 2010, The Church at Sheppard was launched with the aim to reach and minister to people in and around Sheppard Air Force Base. Not long after that, the West Campus was born and has grown into two worship services. The downtown worship center seats 1,650 in traditional pew arrangement and includes a choir loft.

Akin Auditorium, a 422-seat venue located at the north end of the Hardin Administration Building, is the primary performance facility for the Midwestern State University Department of Music. A full renovation of the auditorium was completed in the Fall of 2019 and now includes technology to stream concerts online for viewers across the world

The theatrical production facilities and equipment in the Fain Fine Arts Theatre are impressive. The 475-seat proscenium theatre has almost 6,000 square feet of stage space and includes a massive hydraulic lift, several trap doors and 40+ battens for hanging scenery and lighting.The back of house areas include a large scene shop with property storage, electrics maintenance, tool storage and a paint room. The costume area has a well-equipped costume construction area, and spacious makeup, dressing, and storage areas and a fitting room. This theatre is the primary performance facility for the Midwestern State University Department of Theatre.

Memorial Auditorium

Constructed in 1927 as a replica of the State Fair Music Hall in Dallas, Memorial Auditorium is a beautiful historical venue seating up to 2,700 people. The auditorium is situated atop a bluff overlooking the Wichita River, the same location where the last area Native American battle took place only ten years before the auditorium’s construction. Memorial Auditorium has hosted entertainment giants Will Rogers, Elvis Presley, Gene Autry and Bob Hope. Today, the auditorium is home to the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra and plays host to comedians like Ron White and Jerry Seinfeld, touring Broadway productions, and musical greats such as B.B. King and Willie Nelson.
