Heather Blanco

Heather grew up mostly in Houston where she started studying the viola in 6th grade. She was fortunate to go to a performing arts middle school and high school. She graduated from Florida State University in 1996 with a bachelor’s in music education. After graduation she toured for several years with the ecumenical Christian music group Celebrant Singers playing both violin and viola. She traveled throughout the 48 contiguous states and other areas of the world including places such as India, Cuba, Eastern and Western Europe, and Central and South America. She began teaching orchestra in the public schools in California, and has since taught for nineteen years in Texas. She taught for four years in Irving, but most of her career has been in Arlington ISD. Heather has also written and arranged both string and full educational orchestra pieces, and several have been used for the yearly UIL Orchestra assessments in Texas. She has enjoyed playing with the WFSO since 2003, and performs as a freelance musician throughout the Metroplex on violin and viola. Heather enjoys spending time with her husband and their two rat terriers.
